Karan Johar celebrates International Men’s Day with Ranveer Singh’s dance video
Karan took to Instagram and shared a clip from his last release, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ titled Dhindora Baje Re. The video showcases Ranveer’s electrifying performance alongside a heartfelt note. Karan focused on the fact that talent has no gender.
Sharing the video, he wrote, “Hunar ka koi gender nahi hota. Today is dedicated to the real MVPs of our society—the men. But not just any (and definitely not EVERY) man…today is for the men who champion feminism. The ones who uplift humanity by advocating equity, equality, and a more compassionate society for women and for everyone who dares to be their true self.”
He added, “So that could be on the stage dancing your heart out to Dola Re Dola, channelling your inner Madhuri & Aishwarya, or on the field expressing your emotions and gratitude after hitting the ball out of the park. It could be anything. It could be everything. It could be the very step that makes our society a place where many will thrive to become the next MVPs. So do it. And don’t hold back.”
The iconic track Dola Re Dola is originally from the film Devdas. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani had the remake of the track in which Ranveer Singh and his on-screen father-in-law, played by Tota Roy Chaudhary grooved to the track in place of Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit in the original version.
Vaibhavi Merchant opens up about iconic song Dola Re Dola
The song was choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant who revealed details about the track to Bollywood Bubble. She said, “When Karan challenged me and told me that in Dhindora Baje Re has a sequence with Tota Roy Chaudhary and Ranveer Singh breaking into classical Kathak dance and they are doing this on the iconic song Dola Re Dola, I was like ‘Hey Bhagwan, mar gayi.’ Ranveer had never performed a classical dance before and Tota had never danced to save his life.”
She further added, “So, now the challenge is already given to me by my director and here I am. Ranveer is palpitating, he’s got anxiety calls, he’s calling, not me because he can’t call me and tell me ‘mujhse nahi hoga’ because he knows me from the Band Baaja Baraat days. I had to ensure that all his anxieties were calm and then Karan anxiously also called me saying, ‘We’ll keep it?’ I said Karan, just relax, now we are in this, leave it up to me, let me design it. I remember tying the gungroo for Ranveer for the first day, I said see, I gave him a bit of a crash course… so this was an extensive eight days of dance and music.”
